Europa

Article/24 Apr, 2024

It has been around since we learned that in addition to Earth, there are countless planets, satellites, and even meteorites in our universe where life can exist.

ARE WE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE?

Such a question has always puzzled human civilization. It has been around since we learned that in addition to Earth, there are countless planets, satellites, and even meteorites in our universe where life can exist. According to scientists, Jupiter's satellite Europa is suitable for life. But why?

  • Liquid water: Life, as far as is known, is formed and survives in the presence of water. The ocean existing in Europa can meet this need.

  • Energy source: Jupiter's strong gravitational force creates heavy waves inside Europa, as a result of which hydrothermal vents can be formed on the seabed, which can support life like organisms living in the depths of the Earth's ocean.

  • Chemical composition: Scientists believe that Hydrogen, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, etc. are present in Europa. These are mainly responsible for the existence of life on Earth.

But why are we looking for life in space?

Europa's environment is completely different from Earth's. If life develops here, it will be of a completely new form, which may be beyond our imagination. Which could expand our understanding of the structure of life.

How do we know if there is life on Europa?

  • NASA’s Europa Clipper Mission: This spacecraft is scheduled to launch on October 10, 2024. It will pierce Europa’s ice cover and search for the structure, composition, and signs of life on its oceans.
